Blue Horizon’s Bahamian Adventures

Since her arrival in Fort Lauderdale this past October, the Horizon Power Catamarans PC60 Blue Horizon has been showcased with Horizon Yachts at three major boat shows in Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Palm Beach. Blue Horizon was well-received by both motor yacht and power catamaran enthusiasts. Her owners, Alex and Barbara Hammond, were on board during each show to relay their own experiences to potential clients. “With the unusual design and definitely being  the ‘first of a kind’ , the PC60 Blue Horizon caused quite a stir at all three shows,” says owner Alex Hammond.

HammondsOnce the spring show season wrapped, Blue Horizon and her owners set off for some well deserved relaxation time in the crystal-clear waters of the Bahamas. They began their Bahamas journey with a cruise across the Gulf Stream to Albany Marina, which lies at the south west end of New Providence. While at Albany, the Hammonds provisioned the power catamaran as well as welcome their first set of guests Martin and Paula Brewer from London. ” They quickly thawed out from the UK cold and found the best sunning position on the boat ! ” says Alec.

Next stop on the map for Blue Horizon was the Exumas, which is known for sapphir blue water and gorgeous island scenery. The PC60 visited Highborne Cay and Shroud Cay before moving onto Little Halls Pond Cay (which is owned by famous actor Johnny Depp), where the Hammonds met with friends and fellow power catamaran owners Libby and Frank Simon on board their 420 power catamaran Jabolani. During their stay at Little Halls Pond Cay, the three couples enjoyed beautiful weather as well as some adventurous water sports in the form of kite surfing. All too soon it was time to say goodbye, and after a spectacular getaway, the group went their separate ways.

fishFishing was number one on the agenda for Blue Horizon, so when the waters of the Exuma Sound calmed down the Hammonds took the opportunity to stock their freezer with fresh fish. The fishing Gods were looking down on Blue Horizon that day, as they caught Snapper, Tuna, four Dolphin and even the famed Bahamian Barracuda. With a successful fishing trip under their belts, the Hammonds ventured to Big Farmer’s Cay, which helped shelter Blue Horizon from some whipping winds that came through the east. “We were there for three days on our own … the island was uninhabited and no other boats were within a mile or two, it was brilliant,” says Alec.

Nearing the end of their travels, Blue Horizon cruised back to Staniel Cay to greet their final guests, Richard Ford of Horizon Power Catamarans and his wife Leigh. The couples spent a four day retreat with plenty of laughter, sun and relaxation time out on the open water. A few more days of fun in the sun ensued for the Hammonds on board their PC60 before beginning the journey back to the East Coast of Florida to attend the Horizon Owner Rendezvous in Key West. This Horizon PC60’s Bahamian adventure is one of what’s sure to be many exciting island excursions, and Horizon wishes Alec and Barbara Hammond much happiness (and fishing!) on board Blue Horizon.
